Construction Update for April 2012

The following is a summary of where construction stands today and our plans to move forward: – Julian Burtnick and his Maycon crew and Jim Wheeler Electric, following criteria set by Hydro, will be installing the underground services for Phases I, II, & III starting this week. This is a long-anticipated project and will be much appreciated by all of us, particularly Sean and Ken when they no longer have to unwind and rewind that huge extension cord every day! Women’s Work Day

It took less than three hours for 18 women directed by two supervisors to completely install the insulation in both sides of a two-story duplex in Habitat’s Sunshine Coast Village on Tuesday.  The women came from Gibsons, Wilson Creek, Sechelt and  Pender Harbour. Some had experience, but many had no idea what they had volunteered to do. Donning gloves and masks, they enthusiastically set to work. The sun shone brightly – almost as brightly as the faces of two of the family members who will be moving in to a home when it is completed. “I can’t stop smiling,” one of them said later. Infra-Structure nearing completion

Progress has been made during this last month of good weather. I all goes as planned the culvert will be installed , allowing the paving of the roads within the Village site. The large tree which the site designer had hoped to retain was found to be unsound, so was taken down the day the upper picture was taken. Another smaller tree came down in the recent wind storm, but there was no other damage. The first duplex has taken on a new look with the addition of porches, thanks to the work of Wakefield Construction. The siding is on its way and will be the next step toward completion. …

Telus Work Day at Sunshine Coast Village

Habitat volunteer Julie Pin organized a work party on the weekend of May 29/30 2010 to landscape and beautify the Sunshine Coast Village site with the retired Telus group. The Telus group does yearly good deeds in our community and worked on Habitat’s Reef Rd (Sechelt) duplex last year.   Thank you everyone! Introducing “Sunshine Coast Village”, a new community of affordable housing for low income families, currently being developed by Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast volunteers and partners. Sunshine Coast Village is an exciting project, and a considerable step up from the construction of individual homes or a single duplex). Gibsons BC – Thursday May 6, 2010 The RBC Foundation supports initiatives that empower organizations to make a difference and support others. Funding and donations are intended to create social and economic opportunities that strengthen health and well-being in communities where they do business.
